Mountains
Favor ranged units and nimble spearmen, and penalize cavalry heavily. Attacking swordsmen are also hampered by the passes, gulleys, and canyons that make frontal assaults more difficult.
Hills
Also, benefits ranged units, and penalize cavalry to a lesser extent. Swordsmen are largely unaffected by hilly terrain.
Forests
Penalise ranged units and cavalry due to the foliage, but swordsmen and spearmen love all the opportunities for cover and ambush.
Plains
Provide the opportunity for the cavalry to shine - their ability to maneuver makes them the masters of open flat space. Lightly armored spearmen dislike the open terrain of plains, where they are easier targets for cavalry and archers.

Harvesting, Occupation, Sovereignty:
I follow the 5-square rule and only harvest mine or harvest within another person's 5-square if I have received permission. However, if I send my people to a location and someone else sends settlers, exodus a city, or 'ports a city to within 5 squares of where I am harvesting, I consider that since I was there first, I should be allowed to finish.
Please do NOT settle within 10 squares of one of my cities without asking first. And most DEFINITELY do not settle within 5-squares. I will consider any settling within 5 squares of one of my cities to be an act of aggression and I will follow Dragon Aerie protocol to have that settlement removed, moved, or destroyed. Asking permission is only polite, and usually, the answer will be "yes".
Any spot that I've claimed sovereignty on is MINE. If you try to harvest there, your people will be removed. The same goes if I've already got an army camped on a spot. Don't complain if you go there anyway and get chopped up.
Cautionary Advice: I don't mind if someone harvests skins within my 10-square radius as long as the skins are "roadkill" or kill they made. If it was MY kill, expect to be bumped. If you wish to harvest rare herbs within the 10 squares, I won't mind unless you get greedy, or over-harvest the plots to the point that they disappear. If this is happening, your herbalists WILL be bumped. DO NOT EVER HARVEST ON MINE OR ANYTHING WITHIN A 5-SQUARE RADIUS OF ONE OF MY CITIES OR ANY SPOT I'VE SOV'D WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. YOUR PEOPLE WILL BE REMOVED.
