Welcome to a new fellow traveller of Illyriad

 

We Illyrians are a friendly bunch who are known to be at times overly friendly in GC to the point of giving out an overwhelming amount of advice in GC.  So here is some of the basics.

 

Thing a new traveller will need to know:

 

  • Complete the tutorial

It will help you navigate through the different screens.  It will not have you do anything that is not necessary but will give you some different gifts..

 

  • Change your tax rate to around 5%

Taxes in Illyriad affects how much production you have.  Especially at the beginning you will want to keep production of wood, clay, iron, stone & food high.   As you get larger your taxes will increase as you build military and diplomatic units that cost gold per hour.  Do not forsake production for military unless you do not want to grow larger especially early on.

  • Upgrade your storehouse

If you even poke your head into GC you will be sent care packages from your fellow travellers.   Do not worry about the expense to the veteran players most of their storehouses are overflowing with resources, but you do want to catch as much as you can.   Also do not take your storehouse over level 15 -

  • Build your library and start research

The tutorial has you build the library but it not hard to overestimate this building as it controls the amount of research you will be able to do early on.  If you are sent books this is also where you can “read” them for extra research points.

  • Daily Log in Bonus

The Developers of Illyriad give us a prestige system.   It is not a necessity as in some other games but they wisely bestow on us a Daily log in bonus of 1 prestige a day.  This can add up in Illyriad. You can also buy prestige from players ingame or thru Paypal. I would not over spend on prestige early on. you will find build times get very long later.

SEASONS
There are 4 Seasons in Illyriad, and they run as follows:

SPRING (March, April, May)
The time of renewal, growth and soil loosened by the rains.

SUMMER (June, July, August)
Early crops ripen, and workers prefer escaping the heat, underground.

AUTUMN (September, October, November)
The crops are harvested and the balmy weather pleases most everyone.

WINTER (December, January, February)
Workers collect firewood whilst the ground is frozen.

Send spies to all locations above and you will receive as reward a Scribe of Allembine for each spied location (6 Scribes require to spied 2 locations, do the first locations before the 2nd ones) .... Scribe of Allembine is a spy unit with low upkeep (2 gold p/h) but high defensive value (120) ..... When a town collects all 20 scribes, that town gains the discovery 'Allembine Research Techniques', which grants +5 research points hourly per Library level.
