Kale Weathers

Upon reaching ten years of age, Kale and his sister learned that the abbey was a repository of sorts for the bastard offspring of noble lords who wished to hide their indiscretions from the world. However, rather than simply raise the children, the monks of Weatherford trained the most promising of the lot to become great leaders, mages, and statesmen.

 

Having a natural talent for leadership, Kale learned the fine arts of combat, diplomacy, and statecraft while his sister learned to become a general of cavalry. It was during this time that the two also discovered a dark secret, hidden from the students and even many of the monks living there. 

 

Students who showed the greatest promise were taken in the dark, on the eve of their eighteenth birthday. Where they went, or what befell them afterwards was a mystery to the siblings. That is, until a chance encounter between the children and the Abbot who oversaw Weatherford revealed all.

 

While cleaning the outer grounds, the two came upon a shadowy figure, hidden by the thick foliage, speaking with the Abbot. The discussion revealed to the children that the missing students were being groomed to take their place amidst a vast network of powerful men and women who sought to control the lands from behind the scenes.

 

Knowing what was to become of them, Kale and his sister bided their time until the day they were to turn eighteen. While the others slept, the two set fire to the abbey, escaping in the fiery confusion and into the dark night of uncertain times.

 

After years of struggling to remain hidden from those who would surely pursue them, they found their way to the lawless lands of Mal Motsha. It was here that they decided to found a kingdom to stand as a bastion against those who would control the world, taking the surname Weathers, as a reminder of what they were fighting against.

 

And that is where the story truly begins...
