Remy
Far, far to the south, and across the bitter sea, there is place called Pawanallpa. Warm and bountiful, it is a distant land. Beyond the reach of slave traders and the flames of war. You would be able to live in peace there. Let's go there together. Let's build a country of peace in Pawanallpa.
I claim my 10 squares for settling, hunting, gathering and so on and so forth.
Remy, CEO of Ratmart and figurehead for all Rodents in Illyriad.
I claim the 5 squares around my cities for harvesting, and ask that players not move cities within 10 squares of mine without first asking permission.

TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS:
1: Drop your taxes!
Tax won't bring a high income at low populations; better to raise productivity with low tax so you have more resources to build your empire with.
2: Get cotters!
The weakest peasant can gather roughly 100 herbs or minerals a day from various nodes scattered across the map. These can go for over 350 gold each on the market, so that's 35,000 per day from each cotter! Much better than any taxman.
3. Use your gold to grow!
There's no point hoarding all you have early on in the game, far better to spend it on growth. With cotters you should be making a few hundred thousand daily. Use this gold to place "Buy" orders for basic resources from your town. This can be done from the "Trade" screen. With a buy order, your town needs only 1 caravan per order regardless of how many resources you are buying, its the seller who worries about capacity. Because of this, it's a great way to get resources in bulk early on, and help pay for the higher levels of your warehouse/barracks. I'd advise 1 gold per resource as a base cost, and then more up to 2 gold per if you want the resources fast, but check the prices in your area. Don't try to buy more than 210k of a resource in one order, as 210k is the maximum caravan capacity.
4. Research pioneering/siege encampment!
Pioneering (at the bottom of the city tree) allows you to build settlers. These take 4 days to build so its best to get going on them early; you'll need them for when you reach 450 population and want to found your second city. Alternatively, with the help of allies you may be able to capture cities from abandoned players. For this you will need a barracks level 20 and the "Siege Encampment" tech. The former is easier done, the latter is faster for growth. Talk to your allies and plan accordingly.
5. Don't be shy!
If there's ever a point when you're low on resources, don't have enough research points to get that tech you want, or are confused with some aspect of the game, ask! We are always happy to help people out :)
6. Think about where you settle!
Where you place your city can be a big question, with Illyriad's massive map giving no lack of choices. Think about what you want to do in the game; do you want to harvest resources from diverse biomes, and have outposts of gatherers spread across the map?
Do you want to build a central cluster of cities that can support themselves? Is there a particular alliance you want to move onto and settle near? Ask yourself these questions, and again, feel free to get some advice! No choice in Illyriad needs to be permanent and
cities can always be moved, but thinking about your first choice can prevent (or delay) some headaches down the road :)

An old crone arrives at the doors of Karak Drak. |
The horror has stirred message delivered approx 3.5 days after Audrey woke. "the fools continue to feed it" implies said message has a prerequisite of players sending a certain amount of troops to Audrey, likely in the millions.
- It is not enough to simply wake Audrey. There is an additional requirement of sending X amount of troops to her in order to trigger the message.
- That message hasn't been recorded in 10 years, meaning the 2014 quest attempt was the only one which gathered enough force. This tracks, future attempts had less interest, as well as a misconception that sending should cease the moment Audrey wakes.
[02:42]<GM Duran> Anyways, I'm going back to my lurking tree. Will check tomorrow to see if the city is still there.
[02:42]<GM Duran> If it's not. Mammoths.

A Rats Tale
In the 1046th cycle of the second era, a rat was born in the Keppen Industrial Area, the beating heart of King Sigurds domain. One lone vermin in a world of prejudice and hatred, without coin and without learning. This rat's fate, however, was not to be that of his kin; condemned to a life in the cave, grasping at the shadows, ignorant of the noble and goodly things of this world.
Blessed with good fortune, he was found and taken in by the 3 Great Sensei of WISH: Monkey, Okkudo and Emil, and there was taught the ways of the world. Having learned the wisdom of the elders, he embarked upon his mission; to fulfil the noble cause of Rodent Nationhood, He journeyed far 'neath Moon and Star towards the land of Tal, where the treasure ships make their port, hoping that he could from there chart his course for the Broken Lands: a new world of hope, dreams, adventures... and some day, a nation for his long oppressed people. He gathered with him all the rats he could find upon his journey, kindling hope within them by the same words once spoken to him by his own rat elders when he was but a wain, and all of them toiling together under the elgean yoke:
"Far, far to the south, across the Bitter Sea, there is a land called Pawanallpa. It's warm. And fertile. A faraway land, where neither slave traders nor the flames of war reach."
