Our basic policies: Current revision 4/26/2020   previous Revision 2018

New City Settlements10 space rule:  We have adopted the 10 space rule.  We will not settle within 10 spaces of another existing alliance city without securing prior permission of those within the 10 spaces..  No one should be allowed to settle within ten spaces of one of our existing cities without seeking and being granted permission.  No one will be allowed to settle within six spaces of any of our cities.  Sharing of sovereignty space will be agreed upon between individual players. The ten space rule will be hard to enforce within the Newbie Ring where all new players spawn.  They can be asked to restart emphasising  that it will not be healthy for them to be too close.  If they do not show any growth by the end of their protection, we can raze their towns.

Territorial sovereignty: All tiles within five spaces of a PLAN member's cities or troop encampments shall be considered their absolute sovereign territory regardless of the status of any established or missing sovereign claim.  Any new settlement that falls within that space must be removed unless explicit permission has been granted.  Any new troop encampments of foreign players must be removed unless previous permission has been requested and granted such as harvesting permissions.  Whenever possible we will seek permission to settle an area that has troop encampments. Upon settleing a new area, any pre-existing troop encampments will be honored as established claims until such encampment has been removed by the owner. At such time the  tile claim is considered relinquished and then becomes the sovereign territory of the Plantagenet occupant.

Abandoned accounts:  All cities of a PLAN member who leaves the game shall remain the property of the alliance.  We alone shall determine the ultimate resolution of said cities.  Any act of aggression toward one of the cities will be considered an act of aggression upon the alliance as a whole and will be dealt with accordingly.  Requests for the taking of an abandoned player’s cities must be submitted to the leadership.

Acts of aggression towards us Incidental or accidental acts of aggression toward our members will be handled diplomatically and may be forgiven providing any request for adequate restitution has been submitted to the victim.  Intentional acts of aggression will be dealt with as we deem appropriate based on the severity of the transgression.

Acts of aggression from us:  Our alliance shall uphold a peaceful existence in our territories.  Our members will not be allowed to attack another alliance member deliberately or intentionally without just cause.  Permissions for first strikes must be authorized by the leadership. Incidental or accidental offenses will be handled on a case by case basis and  restitution will be paid when deemed appropriate

Harvesting territory and troop encampments:  We will attempt to ask permission, or at least inform other alliance players of our intent to harvest and or place troop encampments within five spaces of their existing cities.   Should we establish military encampments upon tiles that are within five spaces of another city to protect our harvesters; this should not to be considered an act of aggression.  If permission is denied or we are asked to remove the encampments we will do so.  If harvesters have already been dispatched, removal may be delayed until the harvesters have returned.  In the event that a city is established in a crowded area which is accustomed to high traffic and harvesting, the seeking of permissions may be eliminated.  We expect the same courtesy.

Confederation agreements: Any Alliance that enters a confederation agreement with PLAN shall be considered Brothers or Sisters of the Realm.  They are family and will be treated accordingly.   We are a peaceful  Training and Trade focusd alliance  and will lend support to our Confederation brothers as agreed upon by both alliances.  Being a peaceful alliance, our support will be in the form of offering to be mediators to help settle conflicts; offer sanctuary for those who cannot nor will not participate in wars.  Most of our trading will take place through the neutral trading hubs.   Military support will not be available based upon our neutral trading nature.  Our military interests will be for self defense and protection of our territorial concerns and for harvesting purposes.

Recruiting, applications, membership activity:  We shall strive to recruit and accept applications from active players.  Applicants with a history of 3 or more alliance memberships within one year must be approved by the entire leadership.  Active involvement can mean as little as logging in on a weekly basis and speaking up in AC at each log-in, however, no leadership positions will be open to minimally active players or alternate accounts.  Any player below the rank of a Colored Knight, who absent for 30 days without consulting the leadership, may be placed on Lame Duck status. A person who is absent for 60 or more days without communication may be placed on pending status. Players who are gone for 70 days or more can be considered as having abandoned their account. Their account may be absorbed into the alliance by other members.   Disposition of an abandoned account shall be at the disgression of the KIngand consultation of the leadership..

Peace be with you!

King of the Realm, House of Plantagenet

Brief History lesson:

House of Plantagenet

A royal dynasty that produced the fourteen Kings of England who ruled England for the 331 years from 1154 until 1485.

It is claimed the name arose because Geoffrey V of Anjou wore a sprig of the common broom in his hat; this became his 12th century nickname Plantegenet derived from the broom's Latin name Planta enista.

Richard III, the last Plantagenet king, was killed in the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 and the legitimate male line became extinct with the execution of his nephew, Edward, Earl of Warwick in 1499.

The era was typified by intermittent but frequent conflict between the Plantagenets, Roman Catholic Church, the English Barons, the Kings of France, the Welsh, Scots, Irish and in later years a developing middle class. This included what is now called the Anarchy, First Barons' War, the Second Barons' War, the Hundred Years' War, the Peasants' Revolt, Jack Cade's rebellion and the Wars of the Roses. To be a successful Plantagenet monarch required military success and some of the Plantagenets were renowned as warriors. Richard I of England had distinguished himself in the Third Crusade.   He was known as "Hammer of the Scots". This comes from the Latin inscription on his tomb, which reads “Edwardus Primus Scottorum Malleus hic est, 1308. Pactum Serva” ("Here is Edward I, Hammer of the Scots, 1308. Keep the Vow").  Edward, the Black Prince gained fame at the fields of Crécy and Poitiers, but died on campaign before succeeding to the crown.

Henry V of England left his mark with a famous victory against larger numbers at the Battle of Agincourt. Out of this conflict largely driven by the English Barons' reluctance to support the Plantagenet's personal continental ambition developed lasting social developments sector such as Magna Carta. This was often driven by weakness in the Plantagenet position forcing them to compromise in accepting constraints on their power granting rights and privileges in return for financial and military support.

The reign of the Plantagenet Kings saw a re-adoption of what was to become the English language. In 1362, at the high point of the Plantagenet kingship Edward III made English the official language of royal courts and parliaments with the Statute of Pleading.  English was transformed from the language of serfs into one fit for poetry and scholarship.

Among others the Pearl Poet, Geoffrey Chaucer, John Gower and William Langland created a distinctive English culture and art. The Plantagenets transformed the English landscape with significant building and patronage of the arts. Westminster Abbey, Windsor, York Minster, the Welsh Castles and the golden age of cathedral building in the Gothic style are the most significant examples of this. Richard I foundered Portsmouth as a military town, King John Liverpool and Henry III Harwich. London prospered and brick building was reintroduced for the first time since the Romans.
