Welcome to the
Southland Sentinels

an alliance for those who wish to pursue their own quiet, contemplative building and gathering agenda, and appreciate friendly companions who have limited interaction outside of tournaments, but are available should the need for assistance arise.

We DO require those who wish to align themselves within our alliance to be free from the threat of war or retaliation; we do not provide a safe haven for those whose only schema is to cause havoc and then seek asylum within our unsuspecting enclave. Those persons will be routed and thrown to the wolves... (or whichever alliance is seeking their rotten hides!) Having said this, if you feel you are being unfairly attacked, and wish to join an alliance to gain support in your frustration, we would love to lend-a-helping-hand! Chat with one of our active members and we’ll look into the situation and offer our advice and support.

The pursuit of merchant, crafting or gathering is best suited to this alliance, although you will need to maintain a decent troop configuration as we do expect participation in the various ‘Alliance Tournaments’ in addition to being prepared should you be called upon to support a member in need.

Southland’s maintains a ‘war-chest’ to be used in the event of extended battles. To preserve this chest we charge a modest 0% tax, and, should the need arise; the funds are made available to the entire alliance for the purpose of war preparation, (armours, troops, buildings, weapons etc...).

Member’s have a designated role within our alliance. This is to enable newcomers to seek the person who can best help them with their present need; and to stay organized for the possibility of attack. We request members heed the direction of these persons if asked to provide for a stated ‘war’ or tournament.

The roles have been revised and broadened to encompass the main fields of interest in Illy.

  • Marshal – the one in charge of the outfit... (russj and Bislorin)
  • Warmonger – the one in charge of, well, leading ‘the charge’... (Bislorin, or his alter persona, Thork.)
  • Crafters – who to call if you need stuff... (Renthefinn, or his alter personality, Finndian)

Southland Sentinel’s do not maintain a training alliance and recommend, if you are wanting more intense ‘training’, that you seek one of the Illyriad Training Alliances. We are able to help you grow and become proficient within the game, but we are not an intense training coalition.

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING TROUBLE WITH ANY OF OUR MEMBERS:

Please contact our Marshal; they will endeavour to rectify any slights or misinterpretations to the satisfaction of all parties involved. Should this be unattainable, we shall look into all methods at our disposal towards ending the strife.

As always, we recommend keeping behind the yellow line and remaining a respectful 10-tile distance from any of our members’ properties and request contacting the member involved directly, should you wish to settle closer. Also, please do NOT gather or hunt within this arbitrary ‘safe-zone’ without permission from the member or be prepared to have your gatherers routed or destroyed without compensation.

We do not claim to own the resources in Illy; however, if we have set up our armies to safe-guard an herb garden, grape vines or mine shaft, we expect others to respect this claim. All attempts to dislodge us from our claims will be met with swift and decisive action. We are a generous alliance and will gladly share, or sell, some of our extra gatherings, once our alliance has its fill.

We look forward to having your presence within our cloistered walls, and hope we never need meet on a battle field.

Alliance History

(currently being updated;)

The Southland Sentinels are a relatively young organization, born of olden roots; a political union of REALM and the Night Assassins.

The origins of the Assassins trace back to just before the first crusade around 1080. There has been much difficulty finding out information about the origins of the Assassins because most early sources are either written by enemies of the order or based on legends.

A passionate devotee of Isma'ili beliefs, Hassan-i Sabbah was well-liked throughout the land of Illyriad and most of the people becoming his followers. Using his fame and popularity, Takumi founded the Order of the Night Assassins, dedicated to rooting out evil and corruption in Illyriad, and as their name implied, they were not bashful about using any means at their disposal to accomplish that goal. That said, despite their fearsome name, these were men of honor at their core. They were the Watchmen in the Shadows; the avengers of the weak and powerless, and they, in their long and storied history, never found a shortage of work.

The Courts of Candle'Bre were established on Devil's Island in Kumala, and became the cornerstone for the alliance called REALM (formerly a part of the venerable STEEL Dominion family of alliances).

REALM's membership in the Brotherhood of STEEL was tempestuous, and fraught with sharp disagreements with the leadership of the day, and these conflicts escalated to the point where the Brotherhood, in its original form, was torn asunder. That group's Chancellor-General resigned over the tempest, the Covenant of STEEL was broken, and times were tense between the former allies living close together in Kumala, but REALM had, in her short and shining history, a habit of making her own way and thriving in the face of adversity.

She grew and prospered. Fences were mended with the new Chancellor-General of the STEEL Dominion, and in the fullness of time, REALM's  leaders slowly branched out.

It was pure happenstance that the leadership of REALM and the Night Assassins should meet. Velociryx, of REALM was out riding one day when he was set upon by bandits. As it happened, Takumi, of the Night Assassins had been tracking them for some days, and came upon the pitched battle that Velociryx was losing, rushed in without hesitation, and turned the tide.

The two became fast friends, and quickly realized that the two Courts stood to gain much by way of political union.

So it was that contracts were drawn up, Velociryx's young nephew was wed to Takumi's young niece, and the two Court Elders (Vel and Takumi) were named Regents of the expanded, and renamed realm. Now, drawn together under the united moniker, the Southland Sentinels; SOUTH.

The Sentinels are charged with two duties. One given them by the King, and the other, by their Patron, the Goddess Kumala.

For the King, the Sentinels vow to keep the Peace of the Southlands; to keep the south safe, secure and free from tyranny.

For their Patron Goddess, the Sentinels, who have been blessed by the Goddess with the knowledge of the true purpose of the Melders and the Heart of Corruption, to guard the rest of Illyriad from these... not because they are inherently evil, but rather, because the outlanders (those not of the Southlands) do not understand what these things are, and truly represent. It is, therefore, as much our sworn duty to keep the folk of Illyriad safe from these, as it is our charge to keep the Melders and the Heart safe from those who lack wisdom and understanding.

As time marches forward, Velociryx and Takumi find their holdings in another land are demanding more and more of their limited resource: TIME. It is with approval of the entire Alliance we bring Hondo in as our Grand Marshal to allow Velociryx and Takumi both to step back and focus elsewhere for the time being. As a former member of STEEL Hondo comes to us with much experience and we welcome his leadership.

General Alliance Policies:

Any player wanting to settle within 10-squares of a member is asked to mail the player in question first for approval; otherwise the settling city/player is subject to being besieged. We're happy to work with you... we just want a conversation if you're wanting to move close... after all, we hardly know you.

Any player wishing to harvest within 5.5-tiles of an Alliance member's city is asked to IGM the player involved or risk being subject to attack by the Alliance. Repeat offenders will be dealt with harshly.

Alliance has a 21-day inactive policy, at that point the inactive account is reduced to Chimeraling. (Any account showing no activity will be reduced!) To reinstate your rank, contact khrys or kitten.

Alliance member who has not signed-in, nor contacted russj, in 30-days, is turned into a Husk. At 45-days, your towns will be raided; thieved and/or sold or auctioned for siege practise. Any resources placed in the community vault will be forfeit.
